ABOUT NORTHERN ACADEMY OF DRAMATIC ART..
The Northern Academy of Dramatic Arts was founded in 2007 as a private studio for professional, tertiary training in Dramatic Arts. All certification is provided through Trinity College of London which offers an ATCL (Associate Level qualification) and LTCL (Licentiate Level qualification) as either a Performer or Teacher`s internationally recognized training certification.
ATCL is typically a 3 year course of study and qualifies students for performance and/or studio teaching. LTCL is typically a 4 year course of study an qualifies students for performance and/or teaching in schools at all levels.
Part-time/partial options which do not lead to full qualification are also available as general enrichment/upskilling opportunities.
The studio provides in-person as well as online training.
Past graduates of the Academy have gone on to pursue successful careers as performers, teachers, theatre-makers, film producers, production managers and stage managers.

COURSE OUTLINES
CURRENT PROGRAMMES
1. GENERAL PERFORMANCE STUDIES (ATCL/LTCL/single masterclass modules): in VOICE, MOVEMENT, ACTING, THEATRE ARTS
2. SPECIALIZED THEATRE TEACHING ARTIST AND THEATRE-MAKER WITH SPECIALIZATION IN THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES
Courses are available as part time in-person or as online programmes where students enrol per module/workshop (of approximately 10 sessions each) whenever it suits their time and financial constraints.
Students may select any module from the programmes for general training/upskilling purposes.
Students who wish to achieve a formal qualification, however, will have to complete a set number of modules (a minimum of 25) before applications for external examinations. Formal qualifications for both programmes will be awarded through Trinity College of London and are internationally recognized performance/teaching qualifications. After enrolment for the examinations, the formal qualifying examination will be conducted by external Trinity College of London examiners. On passing these examinations, students will be awarded the ATCL/LTCL qualification. NADA does not offer qualifying examinations, but it trains, prepares and supports students to achieve the required levels of preparedness for external qualifying examinations. These include the:
Teaching qualifications: The ATCL Teacher`s qualification which qualifies students for teaching in studio settings and in community projects. and/or the LTCL Teacher`s qualification which qualifies students for teaching in the school system in the GET and FET programmes in primary and high schools. Students will also obtain sufficient skills to qualify for employment in Drama in Education and Theatre for Young Audiences programmes and performances.
The General Performer`s programme (ATCL OR LTCL) which will qualify students for a professional career as performers.
Students determine their own study programme in whatever sequence they prefer. Modules need not be completed in numerical sequence. The minimum period of study will on average be 3 years for an ATCL qualification and 4 years for a LTCL qualification. The minimum age for enrolment is 16.
PRICE: R2 000/module to be paid on enrolment for each specific module. Enrolments for Modules will close 2 weeks before commencement of the workshop.
NB: Modules 7&14 (Teachers) and Modules 7, 17&19 (Performers) must be completed but will not be charged
Students who do not wish to enter for a formal qualifying examination (either ATCL or LTCL) are welcome to enrol for any of the course modules for general enrichment or enhancement of existing qualifications.
The course can be completed as a fully on-line course (some options will in that case, not be available).
In-person modules will take place in and around Cape Town (venues to be confirmed for each module) and at specified times during the year. Practical teaching modules will take place in selected schools/studios.
